PE Funding

about the pe and sport premium

Here at St Vincent's we promote the wellbeing of children. We believe all young people should have the opportunity to live healthy and active lives. We seek to enable children to grow in independence, to value a healthy lifestyle both physically and emotionally and to have respect for themselves and others.

The School Sport and Activity Action Plan set out government's commitment to ensuring that children and young people have access to at least 60 minutes of sport and physical activity per day, with a recommendation of 30 minutes of this deilvered during the school day.

The PE and Sport Premium was established to provide primary schools with funding for additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE, physical activity and sport. It is allocated directly to schools so they have the flexibility to use it in the way that works best for their pupils and staff.

swimming and water safety

All schools must provide swimming instruction either in key stage 1 or key stage 2.

In particular, pupils should be taught to:

  • swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
  • use a range of strokes effectively (for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke)
  • perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations
